I was on an a RadioShack HTX-242 with a 5/8 wave antenna. I checked in at least three times on the 146.400 simplex net, once from Coxcomb Hill and twice from the cemetery at 15th and Lexington (that's my official CERT rendesvous location). I couldn't hear everyone who was checking in, but I was able to check in no problem.

I think that I even checked in from our house (on the hill on Jerome Avenue) one time by hanging my mag mount antenna out the east facing window. I'll try that tonight again to see if it works. (That is assuming my wife lest me - these nest all fall right about the time that we sit down for dinner and she gets a little cranky about that sometimes...)

Hi Nick, thanks for responding. I've checked in several times from Astoria to the Seaside Tsunami net on 146.400 simplex (50 watts on a mobile rig) just to see if I could do it. I have to be up on the ridge somewhere or at Coxcomb Hill.
